April 15: Cu Chi Tunnels - Making rice paper, rubber sandals made from tires to confuse the enemy, bomb crater, and tunnel site

Booby traps in the tunnels

Cu Chi tunnels

Other presentations at the tunnels were making rice paper, a shooting range with the M16 and another weapon I can't recall, a tank, weapons, and a video produced in 1967. It was an uncomfortable feeling being an American viewing the short film. Propaganda...

April 15: Cu Chi tunnels - camouflaged entrance to tunnels; tunnel which was very small and tight; a bomb crater, and me emerging from a tunnel

April 15 - Cu Chi tunnels

Today we met our driver, Phong, and our guide, Happy. Had a van all to ourselves with comfortable seating, plenty of storage, welcomed air conditioning, and a supply of cold bottled water.

Our first stop were the tunnels at Cu Chi. We toured the site first and Happy gave us many details of life for these people beneath the earth. Entire families lived in the tunnels for twenty years during the war. At times there could be at least 20,000 people living there. We had the opportunity to go through 40 meters of the tunnel and we were exhausted. A faster was was to crawl but we just hunched over.

Phong Tron, our driver and our van; Happy, our tour guide who was knowledgeable, had a great sense of humor, and looked out for our safety.

April 15: Ho Chi Minh City - Population ten million, motorbikes four million! You wouldn't believe how we crossed the streets...

April 15 - Ho Chi Minh City

Happy tax day, everyone!
Wow! What a city...glad we are leaving today. This place is truly something regarding traffic. Thought we'd be in numerous accidents while in a taxi and later while walking. Motorbikes and bicycles abound. It reminds me of the Tour de France!

We took in the Water Puppet show last night and had a lovely dinner at one of the recommended restaurants. we are all becoming braver while crossing streets.

Leaving this morning for our Mekong Delta tour with private car, driver, and guide. accommodations here have been wonderful and we believe our other hotels will be the same.
Weather is hot and humid...back to bad hair days!

Stay well everyone!

April 11: Watson's Bay outside Sydney and lunch at Doyle's
